Elizabeth, this isn't an easy question to answer, but I'll give you some things to think about. A twin sized quilt is normally 68" wide by 94" long. If you want to tuck the quilt under the pillow you need to add 12" to the length. A twin will normally take 15 blocks (3 across by 5 down), and you can add one row of blocks if you are tucking the pillow. We will also consider that you will be using a 3" lattice, 10" borders on the sides and bottom and a 6" border on the top. You will need for the back of the quilt about 6 3/4 yards. (This allows for two lengths.) For the lattice - 1 1/4 yards, 3" blocks at the crossing of the lattice - 3/8 yard, 1 yard each of 5 fabrics for the blocks - 5 yards, border - 3 yards, bias cut to finish off quilt edges (10 yards if bought) but about 1 yard to make 10 yards of your own. Now, if you plan on adding the tuck, you'll have to adjust the yardage to include another row of blocks and longer side borders and longer lattice, and a few more 3" blocks in the lattice....see what I mean....it's a little tricky, but I hope this gets you headed in the right direction!
