Grape Salad

I know, it sounds weird.  And when you see the ingredients, some of them sound like a strange mix, but my Mom swore that it was wonderful and so I made it for a church function.  Well, I had so many people come up and ask me for the recipe that I thought you might enjoy it as well.  Here goes….

grapes2 Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. green grapes
  • 2 lbs. red grapes
     Approximately 4 cups of each
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 8 oz. sour cream
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups walnuts
  • Brown sugar

Instructions:

1. Mix cream cheese, sour cream, sugar and vanilla.

grapes4

2. Add grapes and 1 cup of the chopped walnuts to the cream cheese mixture.

grapes5

3. Put grape mixture in a serving dish and sprinkle with the brown sugar.

4. Refrigerate overnight and then sprinkle with remaining walnuts right before serving.

I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like this refreshing salad, so you might want to consider making a double recipe!!

This is great for potlucks....To try and make it less fattening I use splenda, fat free cream cheese, and light or fat free sour cream...

I had lunch with some friends the other day and they said that grapes were too expensive to make this salad so check the prices first!!

Yes grapes are very expensive BUT grapes are such a great source of antioxydants and the skin of the grape contains resveratrol which can help to lower cholesterol, calm inflamation, has antibiotic activity, helps our bodies fight cancer and it helps to control blood pressure...so with all that said, it's worth the price, I think...I just learned all this from a health program I have been watching. All that and delicious too!!! Can't wait to get some. Thanks for your recipes

I can remember a recipe similar to this that my aunt made for family get-togethers. I think is only had grapes, sour-cream and brown sugar. I really liked it so I'm sure gonna try this one out. I also like it cause it's easy to find the ingredients and easy to make.

Shari I bet this salad is quite delish! I make another variation of this salad, using... 2-1/4 pounds of the seedless red & green grapes, 1 (8 ounce) package of cream cheese, plus 1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme. I omit the brown sugar and nuts all together to make the salad more kid friendly, and it's a taste preference on my part.

Hi,
I had doubts about the Christmas/melted white chocolate mix and now the family can't get enough of that dessert!!! So, yes, this does sound a bit weird, but I'm on the case. I know we'll love it!
Your recipes are not 'run of the mill' and that makes them special. Thanks!

Hey Everyone, thanks for commenting! I can see how removing the nuts and adding the marshmallow creme would make it a kid favorite! If any of you give it a try, let me know what you think. And remember Bernadette's comments - those grapes are sooo good for you!

Sounds delicious, but I can't eat raw walnuts. Can they be toasted first or can almonds or another nut be used instead?
