I have to be careful when I go out to get the mail because I have a “friend” who likes to meet me there. Although truth be told I don’t know which one of us is more afraid! Do any of you have critters that like to show their faces all too often?

We had a groundhog that lived under our garden shed for a few years. I nicknamed “him” Geoffrey until there were five babies running around my backyard. Yikes! Was afraid to go outside and couldn’t imagine six full-grown groundhogs running around my small yard so had someone come, catch them and release them elsewhere.

Each summer I deal with a big brown toad. My first encounter with Mr.Toad was a few years ago when I was weeding my flower bed. I didn’t know that they burrow into the dirt, our dirt is sand/dirt mix. I was totally surprised. Now every spring he is in the rocks on the side of my house. He usually

So I wonder how long he will live and will he keep coming back? Or does he never leave and is just hidden other times of the year? I don’t know much about toads!
Oh my goodness…I live in Florida for six months of the year and having a snake in my house is my ultimate fear!
Yes, it was one of mine too, but honestly, I’m getting used to it. This is about the 5th or 6th snake I’ve had in the house, but thank heaven for my heard of cats….they keep them at bay until we can get them out!! One of these days I’ll tell you all my scorpion story….
No snakes, but skunks (major problem)opossums, and raccoons. i live in the suburbs and we have creeks nearby. Aah, nature.
My daughter though a skunk was a kitty one time when she was very young…fortunately I caught her before she needed a tomato juice bath!
I think I would pass out if I picked one up by mistake!
snakes are very beneficial in the garden. I am startled when I see one but just leave them be, unless you have dozens! They eat crickets, mice, spiders, and other creepy crawlies that we do not want in our homes. They like to sun themselves and any swift movements are not attack moves, they are using a defense mechanism to scare you knowing that you are much bigger.

Well Shari….you are BRAVER than I am. Snakes are my phobia. I can’t even stand to see them on the Animal Planet or in photos !!

We occasionally have snakes in our yard along with other critters. I usually just leave them be. The other day, we had a squirrel in the house who came in through the wood stove pipe and pushed his way out of the stove through a lift-out plate on the top. We really need to push a mesh guard around the pipe but we’re both too old to go up on the roof!
Phyllis – You left out the best part! How did you get a squirrel out of your house? Don’t tell me if it ends badly….
Don’t like snakes or spiders! Live in Florida so I’m always looking around for something crawling around so that I don’t step on it. My dogs help a lot to keep snakes away. I especially dislike the coral snakes which I’ve seen too many times in my yard because they are poisonous. Right now we have a lot of lubber grasshoppers and those pesky love bugs.
